Adding bleach to steam cleaners makes it more likely to get inside you as its vapours spread around whatever you are cleaning. Steam from bleach can cause burning and red eyes, gagging, blistering and pains in your throat.

Bleach is a toxic chemical which can be very dangerous if you ingest it or breathe the fumes that come off the liquid. Any cleaning solution that contains bleach should be used in a well-ventilated area. If you don't, the fumes can give you a headache, make you dizzy, cause you to cough or cause more serious issues. Serious issues include slow heartbeat, chest pain, and even, in extreme cases, putting you into a coma.

Toxins produced as a result of using bleach build up in the environment, causing dangers to the water supply, killing fish, harming animals, and can get back to people through the food chain.

Therefore, we do not recommend using bleach in steam cleaners. We also suggest you should not use bleach to clean the machine itself, as the bleach can degrade plastic and rubber components in the machine, destroying it for further use.
